I'm Back!

I haven't been posting for a while. Here's a little update of what's been going on lately.

Last weekend, we had a little farewell party for our friend Chelsea, who's leaving MC for a better place. The party carried on till after midnight and we were just lying around singing songs from the 90-s. I, being all domesticated, cleaned the house till 2:3o in the morning.

Work was so-so. Went down to Bangkok and went to shopping places I've never been before!

Saturday was full of drama.

I was at the Women Ministry's convention, had to bang the piano. They didn't have a piano anyway, it was just a big keyboard. I went up to the piano to play when the choir was called. So as I was preparing to play, this Indonesian lady and her other girlfriends asked me how many songs we were going to sing. I told her that we had four. She was shocked, and asked... why do you have so many song? I told her, "Oh, we were given 10 minutes for songs, that's why." She retorted, "No, No... you only can sing one" I cut her and said, "Are you the organizer?" She snorted, "Yes!"

I was whatever-ing her in my head and proceeded to play the piano. As I was playing, she was making comments with her head, and all the gal pals were just looking at each other and shaking their heads (I eyed them constantly as I played). After every song she kept bugging me, "That's it! Finish!"

So that pulled the plug, after I was done, I went up to her and said something like this, "Excuse me miss, I think it's very unprofessional of you to say things like that while I'm playing... bla bla bla... I forgot what I said because it was just like puke coming out after seeing old ladies whose ego was big as their hair-dos... I basically told her off, asking her to see the director if she had any problems, and that we were given the 10-minute slot to sing.

Nothing against Indonesians, but this particular lady was a total irritator.

That afternoon... I stayed in the room and sulked in my room, then went to the pool to swim... alone... The pool was at the same level of the elavated expressway which was a few meters away from the hotel :P

I think the night made up for my terrible morning... was going around in MBK and I bumped into this model... he was going down the escalator and I was going up..FOR REAL!!! here is his picture

his name is Daro...eh no..Patrick Ribbsaeter, a Swed+Thai guy.

Had a shopping spree with my Dad at Giordano... will be going again this afternoon with my mom. Yeah, I still go shopping with my mom, how gay can that be? ahhhhahahahahahahaha

I got to paint Joshua's new house when I was visiting him in KL and got to go to the KL Tower!!!

Here are some pictures:

Was stuck in this traffic for two hours.

Bumper to bumper...I would never want to stay here. I am just exaggerating actually. Some of the major roads were blocked because of some demonstration going on.

My hand and the wall I painted

The view from my room... the view of the road down below and my lean stomach ahhahhahahah

Just commenting something 'bout the Indonesian ladies part. Man, as far as I'm concerned, regardless of who they may be, Indonesian ladies are nothing but bitches! When they get to talking, there's absolutely no way to get them to stop. When they get to the use of flaming words, gosh! It's an even tougher call to actually get them to just look the other way!! Well, not really, but it's just to show how much of a bitch they really are.

i have to say, despite your lamenting, the highlight of your entire post was the male model.

yummy.

i'm glad you told her off. i would not have been as brave as you were, even if that was the right thing to do. you tell her, das. just 'cause her hair is bigger than yours don't make her the bigger bitch.

love you das :)

What Exactly is ICC?

Arasaratnam and Doerfel's (2005) study on defining intercultural communicative competence (ICC) may be dated, but I believe their discussions are very relevant to the current situation of ICC.  Their study aimed to define ICC from a grounded exploratory approach.  Their reasoning behind this is because of the subjective understanding of what intercultural is, and what competence is.  Communication, from an intercultural perspective, is typified as spoken discourse. To come to a definition of ICC, the study interviewed a group of international and local students studying in an American university.  The students were asked what they thought ICC is, and what they thought are key components of a person who is interculturally competent.  Though responses were diverse, a common thread was induced. But would this common thread still be applicable to different cultural contexts?  Probably from a qualitative perspective it would be, but perhaps not if viewed wit...

Unwelcomed

Picture taken from the bus stop I was waiting at.  The structure with the curved roof is the bigger bus stop. Since arriving here, I’ve heard a lot of stories about International Students getting beaten up or mugged or both.  At times I was skeptical when I was told about stories like this, but I believed it, most of the time.  We can’t deny that word of mouth is sometimes sensationalized.  On Thursday nights, shops all over Newcastle will open longer than usual.  This is to give students as well as other people the chance to do some late night shopping or simply hang around.  Last Thursday night, Bill, Jen, and myself were at the bus stop waiting for Bill’s bus to come.  It was half past eight and we were at a bus stop waiting for Bill’s bus to arrive.  We talked for a bit, and realized that we were supposed to wait at the smaller bus stop facing the larger one.  We crossed the road and walked towards the bus stop.  There were on...

now i know how it feels

to be the one standing near escalators, or on the side walk, trying to grab people's attention. Today I was promoting the International Students Volunteer at the orientation program the uni had for the new students. I volunteered to run around the courtyard and wait at the entrance for people who were passing by. I did manage to get quite a number of flyers out. However, I had many futile attempts in getting people to grab a flyer. A girl literally ran when she saw me extending my hand out to her; a guy said his hands were full; another guy took the flyer and left it at the table behind me; another guy (who was from the goon society) came up to me and started dancing... I asked him, why are you dancing, and he said: why not? then it dawned on me...yes, it's the goon society, all they do is drink and be merry (they did drink a lot, i saw them going back and forth refilling their table with booze from the godfrey tanner bar right behind the expo room where we were - and th...
